Merino wool base layer praised for warmth, softness, and comfortable yoga-style waistband. Customers said "warm but light" and "soft against skin." Made in America. Key concerns: length inconsistency (too short for tall, perfect for petite), waistband slides down for some, limited stretch. Best for layering in cold weather.

  • I wore this base layer in Antarctica and I had to get another set.
  • Light, soft, and a perfect fit. It feels like my skin has grown wool.
  • I was surprised that it did keep me warm in very frigid weather.

Too short, weird fit

I really wanted to like these, made domestically with Nuyarn (the most superior merino material that I've used for backcountry activities). But the leggings fell short in every way. They are definitely not 7/8 length. I'm only 5'5" and size small fit like capris (3/4 length), so there's a cold gap between the hem and the top of my tall socks. I bought these because the size chart says small is 26 1/4" inseam, but I measure the inseam as 23.5". In comparison, my other 7/8 pants are closer to 25". They are also not 4-way stretch, only 2-way stretch. They're very stiff in the vertical direction and I feel resistance when I pull my knees towards my chest in a high step. I wanted to use these for running and climbing, so I need the 4-way stretch. The waist band looked like a comfortable wide yoga-style waist in the photos, which is unique for base layers and a big draw of this garment, but when I pulled them on I still found a restricting thin band at the top that cut into my belly, whereas the wide part is *too stretchy* horizontally and doesn't hug the waist, instead bagging out. Additionally, the fit is off, and I have bagging at the hip flexors that cause the leggings to ride down when I move my legs. The 145gsm weight is just too light, feels like my summer hiking merino shirt. So disappointed after reading all the positive reviews and having to do a return. I'd like to meet the people who did the "rigorous testing", maybe there were no small women on the team? Hopefully I just got a mis-cut pair and these are actually as great at the reviews make them seem.

Base layer leggings

Made in America, Big plus for me! They are a base layer so thin, not opaque though. I’m 73, 5’8”, 180 lbs and still wear tight jeans, I bought a large they’re not baggy or tight, they are comfortable under my jeans. Temps are in the single digits and cold in my cabin, leggings are going to make a difference! I would buy again.

Love everything but length

These are so great. I am tall and muscular— I love the fit and the waistband. They are so comfortable. I love the blue color— is makes me happy! I am so glad to be wearing a non-mulesed wool base layer! My only complaint— Please make them longer and in more colors. I am 5’10” and they’re ridiculously short. They’re like capri pants on me.

Hey Erin,

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review.

We're always excited to hear from our customers and utilize their feedback. It's important to us to collect and apply as we work forward.

Once we circle back to revitalizing the women's baselayer line, you should expect to see improvements in design and more color variety.

Appreciate you!

UPDATE BELOW.

Never received them. Filed a claim and am now waiting for a response back. I'll update this once/if I do.

UPDATE: Customer service got back to me and were very understanding and helpful. A replacement package for the items not received was sent out and the items are of great quality and fit. There were a couple hiccups, as they're a small company, but I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from Wūru again.

Warm and soft

Initially, I was dubious that such a thin material could work as an insulator. I was surprised that it did keep me warm in very frigid weather.

Awesome

I am 5'9, weigh 140 and purchased a medium. I love them, they fit great and feel good against my skin. I have not worn in the cold yet but they seem warm wearing around my home.

Definitely 5 Stars

I wore this base layer in Antarctica and I had to get another set. They’re soft, not bulky and kept me warm and comfortable. They’re worth every penny.

Wool legging 7/8 length

I was very satisfied with this product. I am curvy, so I went up a size from what I would wear in a studio legging and was very happy with the fit. I've worn these to run twice now and enjoy that I don't feel I have to immediately change afterwards as the wool keeps the sweat and overall wet feeling to a minimum and dries quickly. The customer service is top notch also. I will definitely continue to buy from Wuru and will get another pair of these leggings in the future.

Warm but light

These are great base layer pants, but also great as PJ pants on very cold nights. Super sleek and warm!

Love them! You should promote them for petite size, cause they work for me!

These fit me as a petite height, 5 ft 2 in. I've never tried a cropped legging before. Now I know where I'm going to be buying my wool leggings from, from now on. They waist band isn't restricting.

They fit!

These are the first wool base layer that I have found that actually fit a mama-type body. Wool pants have been so discouraing! The waist band comes to my belly button they don't roll down AND they fit over my hips! I'm in LOVE. They *are* spendy but I know they are worth at least 10 pairs of other leggings/base layers. I put them on when they arrived two days ago and haven't taken them off. I'm 5'8" and 175 lbs and ordered a XL (as I was worried they would be too tight). A size L probably would have worked too.

Great woolie baselayers

Haven’t stop wearing them since they arrived. 5’2” 128lbs, ordered a small. Can’t wait to order more wuru! Please restock more colors. Excellent quality and fit, perfect weight for layering. My only gripe is they fall down on me but the nonbinding waist without compression is worth this slight inconvenience. Hope to see a thicker midweight legging that can be worn on its own in the future.

perfect

Light, soft, and a perfect fit. Nice design. Out in the cold, it is warm and cool at the same time. It feels like my skin has grown wool.

Great base layer

I wear these leggings under scrubs to keep me comfortable at work. These moved really well and never bunched or sagged over the couple of days I wore them. They regulate temperature really well. I love the inseam length. They're perfect under ankle length pants, but I do have a short inseam of 26 inches. Overall, these are great and I won't be looking around for a better pair of wool leggings ever again. Customer service is pretty fantastic too.

Great fit for curvy hips

Finally, leggings that are designed for active women who are curvy. I’ve tried the other leading wool brands and these fit the best. Going to order the other color, too.

I really wanted to like them.

I was hoping to finally have found the perfect pair of wool leggings for wearing with dresses and since I like Wuru clothing and supporting one of the smaller companies, I was really hoping that these would work perfectly. But they don't. The first problem is that they are way too short. They hit mid-calf which doesn't work in cold weather. I'd either need knee-high boots or very tall socks to cover that gap. The other problem is that after wearing them for a while the waistband slides down several inches and they start sagging in the crotch area. Not a pleasant feeling. If only they were six inches longer and stayed up at my waist, then they'd be perfect. I thought maybe I"d ordered a size too small but when I double checked, my measurements fit the size large exactly so that isn't the problem. On the positive side, the fabric is nice and they are snug so there isn't bagginess at the knees. But having them slide down in the waist and crotch is going to drive me crazy.

Not quite.

First the good--the wool fabric is thin and soft and a perfect for a base layer fabric.
Not so good-- I am 5' 3" and these are too short, more like a cropped legging.
Finally, the white brand tag on the exterior belly seam is an unattractive addition.
Would not purchase again.

Nice product

Great length and heft. Waist is not snug enough for my taste.

Soft and lightweight

I love the fit of these! The wide waistband is fantastic. Since I am 5’8”, these are a inches short on me, but I kept them because they’re so comfortable. If you’re tall, these fit as a cropped legging. These are a lighter we’ve been another brand I have, but they are so soft & light they will be great for layering.

Excellent

I got my pants last week and put them on to "try on" 10 days ago and have been wearing them pretty much constantly ever since! These are amazing! We camped at 10,000 ft elevation and they provided great, breathable protection during the day and were warm at night. I am a knitter and fiber artist so I already had a deep appreciation for wool, but I love these. The fact that I am able to support a Utah company that produces their products in the USA is pretty great. I highly recommend these.

To spring the decision....

A measurement and sizing chart would really help to make the decision. As an outdors woman, it's hard as hell to find the right fit. To sweat in. To keep cool, to stay warm. To have pockets. When I find the right gear, I buy it.

Love these

Fit is great. Not see through, would wear alone as leggings. After wearing them as my night clothes on a 10 day backpacking trip, they do not sag! Very soft and comfortable. I want to wear them every day. They rise falls just below my belly button. Got a medium, I am a size 10/12, 31" waist. They fit perfectly.

Thank you for taking the time for your review, we're so glad to hear you love them and find them so comfortable and versatile! We hope you had a great time of your adventure.

Just what I was looking for

A friend told me about Wuru, I purchased both colors and love them both. They are exactly what I was looking for, very comfortable and love the fact that they're made in California.
